Assignment #2

Pg. 92
"The first error...things no more."
This passage is important because this is when Emma begins to realize she was wrong for trying to be a matchmaker. It shows she's beginning to grow as a person, by admitting her wrongs. She begins to see her mistakes because Mr. Elton shows affection to her and not towards Harriet. This makes Emma really see, she was doing wrong by basically “forcing” to people to like grow feelings for each other, when in reality they didn't have a “thing” at all towards on another. Even though she realizes she was wrong and everything was her fault, she won't stop helping Harriet find someone.

Pg. 126
“The Frank Churchill...soon must be.”
This passage is important because it shows Emma is showing affection towards Frank Churchill. It could possibly grow, and Emma and him could grow into a relationship. This could also cause problems if Emma and Mr. Knightly do begin to grow feelings for each other as well. Mr. Weston also shows that he wants Emma and his son to have an “attachment”. This could be a good oppurtinity for Emma to focus more on herself, then Harriet.

  1. I do believe that these passages are important not only to entwine the reader, but to the comprehending of the story.
    Mr. Elton to me is a proper man that would do good for Emma, and for Emma to have feeling for Mr. Churchill is bad news. I think he has fallen in love with some else.

  2. Pg. 92;

    I too believe that Emma is still trying to grow as a person in not having concerns for others. I forshadow that Emma might get into a little bit of trouble, because of her incessant "match making", more that the trouble that she already caused for match making with Mr. Elton and Harriet. I do hope that Emma soon shows concerns for herself, and love for herself, rather than doing it for other people.

    I agree with what you say. I hope Emma soon will find a guy for herself, and settle down. I predict that there will be some "tension" with Emma, Frank Churchill, and Mr. Knightly later on in the story, because it can't be possible that Emma will choose both guys. I think that this love struck situation will take a turn for the worst, if both guys really like Emma, and Emma for herself, really likes them both, but can't decide on who to choose. I also agree that she will focus more on herself, than Harriet.
